THIS IS NOT ENOUGH

We hope new songs as soon as possible

It won’t Be Soon Before Long
A&M/Octone -

out of 5

2007

The latest Maroon 5 album is good, but it is missing something. There are a lot differences between the first release, Songs about Jane, to this second, It won’t Be Soon Before Long. The second is less romantic with happier melodies. However, the ballads are present like the debut album in 2002.

The song that opens the CD, “If I Never See Your Face Again” is jaunty and shows the pop music that Maroon 5 knows how to do. The second is the success single “Makes me Wonder” is one the better songs in this album. It is peppy, hoocky and you want to listen more one time. Another delightful music in It won’t Be Soon Before Long is “Nothings Last Forever”. This track is smooth, restful and in the same time soulful. It reminds me of songs that they recorded in their first disc. The third track in this album that deserves attention is the melodic “Won’t Go Home Without You”. These three tracks were written by Adam Levine (vocals and guitar).

Another pleasing song is “Not Falling Apart” that remembers Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Californian band, but in the well – behaved version. The last track “Back At Your Door” is retro, jazzy, in the beginning seems to be a jazz music, but when Adam starts to sing you can see that is a ballad from pop band. The Maroon 5 melodies and the rhythms in this album remind me of Prince and Jamiroquai’s songs, an English singer, which mixed R&B with pop.

Other tracks in this release are a little less pleasing and they make me think “What are they missing?” “Where is the bright music in this second album like “This Love and Secret” in the first?” The answer we have to wait to see in this next Maroon 5 casting.
